EMHS Program: The Stone House Restoration Project
June 14, 2025 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Come hear about the restoration of the historic Campo Stone House property: the history, the architectural plans, the funding, and the people working behind the scenes! Bring your comments and questions!
Location: Cañón De Carnué Land Grant Hall, 364 NM-333, Carnuel, NM 87123 (next to the Rock Canyon Tap Room)
Public Program: The Stone House Restoration Project. The Stone House property has significant regional importance due to: past usage and involvement of influential families in 20th century agrarian culture; adjacency to 14th century Pueblo with artifacts on site; and location near Tijeras Canyon connecting the Great Plains to the Rio Grande Valley – route of the Long Walk and thoroughfare for Civil War Confederate and Union troops. When restored, it will serve as a Visitor Center, home for EMHS archives, and event space for historical and cultural programs. Throughout the coming year and into next, the Society will offer numerous options to both individuals and businesses to help raise funds for the restoration of this historic site, as well as volunteer opportunities. Come hear from the Stone House Committee of the East Mountain Historical Society, including history of the site, challenges of historic preservation, newly developed architectural plans, and fund raising efforts. Come with your questions and comments — in this public forum, we want to hear from you!
