Escobosa Fiesta, 1953 The couple in the center of the photograph, Nasario and Raquel Maldonado, were the fiesta’s mayordomos. Mayordomos are in charge of organizing the church fiesta and are caretakers of the church patron saint. In recent times they also serve as church caretakers for the year. The girl on the left, holding the arch, is Sally Agnes Muller; the girl on the right is Dora Tapia. The man on the far right, with hat, is Jose N. Mora.

El Toro and El Abuelo (the bull and the grandfather), Sept. 1947 Salvador Herrera is dressed as “El Toro” for a matachines dance. Gabino Campbell, on the left, is playing the role of “El Abuelo.” Herrera was the son of Ramon and Petra Herrera, the family that donated land for the Santo Nino Church in Carnuel. The Herreras lived next to the church and looked after it.
